Hello, my name is Seoyoon Ahn and I am a Freshman studying Economics and Digital Marketing at Notre Dame. I am from Seoul, South Korea and lived there my entire life.
My decision to study Japanese comes from many reasons. First of all, I was exposed to the Japanese culture since childhood from traveling to Japan with my family and having a few Japanese friends. My friends introduced me to some words and sentences, but I have never had a chance to properly learn the language in a classroom setting. I am also a huge fan of Japanese media like video games, characters, and animated movies. Since I was seven years old, I fell in love with Pokémon as I enjoyed playing video games on Nintendo and collected mini-figures. Though I don't play the games as often as I did before, I have been keeping a collection of the games and mini-figures for the past 10+ years. This led me to grow a natural interest in the Japanese language and culture. Lastly, I want to live or work in Japan at some point in my life, and learning the language will be a good starting point.
